It’s time to take responsibility for our planet

One of the most critical values upon which we believe the White Flint Sector Plan should be based is a commitment to Smart Growth and sustainability for our children and grandchildren. We envision a district is built on former parking lots and not former greenspaces. One that that takes advantage of existing public transportation resources and enhances the community with walkable neighborhoods, green buildings and the latest technology to use less – and cleaner – energy.

Throughout our designs for the White Flint area, we emphasize green space and vegetation that not only enhance the district aesthetically, but also helps our community fight climate change. We are committed to providing more parks and open spaces that encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyles, and less impervious surfaces which will lead to vastly improved quality of storm water run-off, thus better protecting our nearby streams, rivers and the Chesapeake Bay.

Our mobility plan is based upon a commitment to creating a community that encourages walking, biking and mass transit. And, we are proposing the construction of cutting edge low energy buildings to counter the negative impacts of carbon emissions and reducing our community’s carbon footprint.

Please see the Green Tech Gallery for examples of the types of cutting edge technology that will be employed throughout the new White Flint: “green roofs”, which use new plants, grass and even trees to replace the vegetation that was removed for the construction of the building. Curtain walls, which have high efficiency glass, and auto-adjusting lighting with sensors to help reduce the amount of energy used are further illustrations of green technology building practices.
